Cuando desmontamos un motor viejo nos daremos cuenta de que el cigüeñal tendrá varias marcas que distinguen su desgaste, donde trabajan los retenes podríamos tener un verdadero desgaste debido al deslizamiento (sí, incluso el caucho al deslizarse deja marcas), el rodamiento podría entrar libremente en su lugar, la biela podría tener un ruido extraño al girarla (signo de desgaste), será hora de cambiar el cigüeñal ya que al volver a montarlo podríamos tener problemas de estanqueidad de presión, ruido en marcha.
